Geometric morphometric assessment of toe shape in forest and urban lizards following hurricane disturbances

چکیده

Abstract Evidence suggests that hurricanes can influence the evolution of organisms, with phenotypic traits involved in adhesion, such as toepads arboreal lizards, being particularly susceptible to natural selection during strong storms. To investigate this idea, we quantified trait variation before and after Hurricanes Irma Maria (2017) forest urban populations Puerto Rican lizard Anolis cristatellus. We found affected toe morphology differently between sites. In particular, forefeet were longer narrower forest, but wider populations, compared pre-hurricane measures. Toepads hindfeet larger area following hurricanes. Fore rear toes increased length hurricane. There no changes number lamellae scales or spacing, 6-11 shifted proximally also measured clinging performance shape. toepad lengths stronger predictors adhesive forces than Our results highlight an interaction urbanization hurricanes, demonstrating importance consider how species will respond extreme weather events. Additionally, our different for fore feet evaluating both these when measuring morphological response lizards.

A geometric morphometric assessment of change in midline brain structural shape following a first episode of schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND Previous reports indicate that brain structural abnormalities may be progressive in some patients with schizophrenia. Our study was designed to determine deviations in the shape of midline brain structures at the time of onset of symptoms of schizophrenia and 3-5 years later. METHODS Eleven landmarks were located on the midsagittal magnetic resonance imagery brain scans of 55 patie...

Phenotypic plasticity of the body shape in wild and farmed common carp (Cyprinus carpio) using geometric morphometric method

The aim of this study was to investigate the body shape and morphological comparison between the populations of wild (marine) and farmed common carp using geometric morphology. For this purpose, 65 pieces of fish including 23 wild common carp and 42 farmed common carp were sampled. The samples were then photographed and 16 landmarks were identified on the images. Procrast analysis was used in o...

assessment of deep word knowledge in elementary and advanced iranian efl learners: a comparison of selective and productive wat tasks

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...

Geometric morphometric analysis of mandibular shape diversity in Pan.

The aim of this research is to determine whether geometric morphometric (GM) techniques can provide insights into how the shape of the mandibular corpus differs between bonobos and chimpanzees and to explore the potential implications of those results for our understanding of hominin evolution. We focused on this region of the mandible because of the relative frequency with which it has been re...

A geometric morphometric appraisal of beak shape in Darwin's finches.

Beak size and shape in Darwin's finches have traditionally been quantified using a few univariate measurements (length, depth, width). Here we show the improved inferential resolution of geometric morphometric methods, as applied to three hierarchical levels: (i) among seven species on Santa Cruz Island, (ii) among different sites on Santa Cruz for a single species (Geospiza fortis), and (iii) ...
